How to prevent fatty liver?
The liver is the main detoxifying organ in our bodies, and in addition, it performs more than 500 other vital functions, including the processing of everything we eat and drink. Fatty liver (liver steatosis) is when the fat content exceeds 5 percent of the total liver mass. Excessive alcohol consumption has a very negative impact, but this problem is also very common in overweight people. Maintain a healthy weight. If you are overweight, you are at risk of having fat around the liver, which can cause non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), one of the fastest growing forms of liver disease. Weight loss can play an important part in helping to reduce liver fat.
Balanced diet. Avoid high calorie meals, saturated fats, refined carbohydrates (such as white bread, white rice, white pasta) and sugar. For a proper diet, eat dietary fibre found in fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grain breads. Also, eat meat (but limit the amount of red meat), milk, and quality fats (unsaturated and polyunsaturated, such as vegetable oils, nuts, seeds, and fish). Hydration is essential, so drink plenty of water.
Regular exercise. Sports activity min. 3x a week helps us burn triglycerides and at the same time reduces fat around the liver.
Avoid toxins. Toxins can damage the liver cells. Limit direct contact with toxins from cleaners and aerosol products, insecticides, chemicals and additives. When using aerosols, make sure the room is ventilated and wear a mask. Don’t smoke.
Alcohol in small quantities. Alcoholic beverages can create a number of health problems. They can damage or destroy the liver cells. We advise you to drink alcohol in moderation or give up alcohol completely.
